The disdain and bitterness displayed throughout the Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali trilogy, and their relationship thereafter are unlikely to be matched in the annals of modern heavyweight boxing. This stunning 39x29 black and white specimen comes from the first of these two legends’ epic battles, held under the lights at Madison Square Garden in 1971. The photo is framed and matted to 53x43 dimensions and depicts Smokin’ Joe landing a vicious left hook to Ali’s chin, which had to be x-rayed immediately after the fight due to swelling. Both Ali (“8-9”) and Frazier (“9”) have signed the photo in bold gold metallic paint pen, only beautifying the already stunning piece. Full photo LOA from JSA.
Note: The borders of the framed item features light to moderate chipping that does not in any way affect the image or the highlighted pennings.
