The 1947 New York Yankees were led by league MVP Joe DiMaggio to a 97-57 record, easily winning the pennant over the Tigers (85-69). They proceeded to meet the Dodgers in one of the first of a few true classic World Series matchups that the crosstown rivals had in the 1940s-50s. The series went the distance, with the powerful Yankees overcoming the heroics of Gionfriddo and Lavagetto to bring home the title. This OAL Harridge orb in EX condition features (24) signatures of average (“6-7”) potency from those World Champions including: Sweet Spot: Joe DiMaggio; North Panel: Bobby Brown, Chuck Dressen (d.1966; coach), Bill Johnson, Bill Bevens, George McQuinn, Tom Henrich, Joe Page; South Panel: Vic Raschi, Aaron Robinson (d.1966), Charlie Wensloff, Dick Starr, Jack Phillips, Bo Bo Newsom (d.1962); West Panel: Frank Shea, George Stirnweiss (d.1958), Ralph Houk, Sherm Lollar, Lonny Frey and East Panel: Johnny Schulte (coach), Randy Gumpert, Phil Rizzuto, Al Clark, John Lindell.
