Description

"If we had beaten Boston in '15, who knows what would have happened?
" mused pitcher Eppa Rixey years later. "We might have been a team to reckon with for a long, long time." Indeed, Grover Cleveland Alexander enjoyed his annus mirabilis, taking Triple Crown honors with 31 wins, 241 strikeouts and a 1.22 ERA. While at the plate, Gavvy Cravath paced the league with 24 HRs and 115 RBIs. All of which stole the glory from Connie Mack's more-successful Philadelphia franchise. This 12 x 9-3/4" team photo showcases stars Alexander and Cravath, plus Becker, Paskert, Moran, Bancroft, Byrne, Whitted, Baumgartner, Tincup, Killefer, Niehoff, Mayer, Dugey, Chalmers, Luderus, McQuillan, Burns, Stock, Adams, Riley and Weiser. The image area itself is virtually EX-MT, with heavy perimeter wear such as chips, stains and edge tears. Accompanied by a 7 x 5-1/2" scorecard (FR, separated) from a spring-training game against the Washington Senators on April 6, 1915.
