“Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!” So ends the Green Lantern oath sworn by Hal Jordan of Earth. Designated Green Lantern 2814.1, this mighty power ring wielding warrior came to prominence in 1959-1960 as a nearly total reboot of the 1940s Gold Age Green Lantern. Jordan made his first appearance in Showcase #22 in October of 1959. Fan appreciation during DC’s push to revive the Super-Hero genre led to the Silver Age Hal Jordan/Green Lantern character getting his own series in August, 1960. Show your bidding willpower to command the offered 8/60 Green Lantern #1 inaugural issue. This major Silver Age key issue retells the origin story of the GL and features the first appearance of the Guardians of the Universe.
Overall this example is fairly pleasing with vivid colors, good gloss, a decent spine and supple light-cream pages, however it appears the book has been repaired. This nicely done repair is of a v-shaped tear that extends all the way through from front to back. The repair results in seeming jagged wrinkles with color breaks above and below the GL’s head on the front cover, while the effects on the pages and back cover are pretty much unobtrusive. There are also typical stress lines along the spine and a 1/4” split at top. In summation, details present at the GD-VG 3.0 level with deference to the repair. Per the leading comic book guide's grading guidelines, "tape and other amateur repair may be present" at this level and this book meets or exceeds all other criteria for the grade.
Offered at what is generally considered the minimum price point for this key issue, this decent and affordable example is a solid buy for those thinking long term.
