Stretch your bids to cover this original Type I photo of New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig. This 1930s scene sees “The Iron Horse” making a stretch play at first base. Measuring 5x4, this near-antique photo is believed to have been taken by Bill Greene during Spring Training, with Gehrig garbed in a warm-up shirt. Surfaced with pleasing gloss, this distinct image could almost be believed to be that of a bronze tribute statue, so majestic is the appearance of the formidable first baseman. Condition reports at the (EX) level with deference to a bit of surface paper loss on the reverse side only and just to make sure the subject is properly identified, a previous owner has written “Lou Gehrig” in ink on the top border of the obverse and again in pencil on the reverse.
