Description

One of the greatest moments in American sport would have to be the 1980 United States Hockey Team winning the Olympic Gold Medal. In February of 1980, huddled on home ice in beautiful Lake Placid New York, the overachieving, seventh-seeded US Hockey team fought against history and overwhelming odds to defeat the Russians in one of the greatest games ever played. The celebrated ABC announcer, Al Michaels shouted, “Do you believe in miracles,” as the final seconds ticked away and answered his own question with a resounding “yes” when the horn finally sounded. Almost anticlimactically, the gritty US team won the gold medal two days later against a tough Finnish team, 4-2. This March 3, 1980 Sports Illustrated magazine is graded 8.5 by CDC and pays tribute to that team with the iconic, familiar image on the front cover. A solid collectible with none graded higher.
