Description

An attorney and judge, James Moncrief (1822-1870) was an important baseball pioneer who played for the Knickerbockers as early as 1845 and became a club director in 1850. Incredibly, this manuscript document actually hails from that exact period when Moncrief was involved with the seminal team. He serves as plaintiff's attorney for a woman seeking alimony and child support. The document measures 8 x 12-3/4" and shows surprisingly clean, well-preserved, non-brittle EX condition with the original binding ribbon intact at top. All handwriting, including Moncrief's all-important signature, averages "8" strength. JSA authentication not included due to lack of exemplars.
