Walter Johnson had just concluded his first season as a manager when he wrote this letter nearly 100 years ago. Penned on Washington American League Base Ball Club letterhead, this correspondence is to a New York resident, who must have been a friend of Johnson's, as indicated by the informal tone of the letter. Johnson has signed by means of a steel-tip fountain pen, and his neatly applied signature still shows "7.5" quality a century later. Accompanying is the original Washington American League Base Ball Club pre-paid envelope, which is postmark dated October 10, 1929. Period compacting folds have little impact on the display appeal of this antique letter, which remains crisp, with a bold printed header, and clearly legible handwritten content, which stands as an excellent example of Johnson's penmanship.
