Legend has it that Denton True Young, a farm boy from Ohio, used to practice pitching against a fence, destroying the pickets so that the aftermath appeared as though a cyclone had destroyed them. While the tales of his fastball and origin of his nickname may be apocryphal, Cy Young’s 511 career wins and 749 complete games are very real standards to which no pitcher will ever come close. This Albertype Hall of Fame plaque postcard is autographed by the namesake of baseball’s most prestigious pitching honor. Issued from 1945-1952, the 3-1/2 x 5-1/2” Type 2 relic literally lived its purpose, as it was delivered to Young with an autograph request composed on the reverse. In compliance, Young (d.1955) signed the lower border in black-ink steel tip fountain pen (“9” strength). With minor paper loss on the reverse, the postcard presents nicely with one of the boldest Cy Young endorsements you’ll ever see. Accompanying is a full photo LOA form JSA.
