Description

In spite of an otherwise prolific hitting career during which he launched 266 home runs and topped the 100 RBI plateau in five different seasons, Vic Wertz will forever be remembered as the guy robbed by Willie Mays to set the tone for the 1954 World Series. Along one of his many stops, Wertz donned this Boston Red Sox cap during his tenure (1959-1961) at Fenway Park. The blue wool accessory features a red-on-white “B” logo embroidered to the front center in the familiar “dirty sox” font.” A blue button secures the six-point crown suspension, while the interior leather sweatband is home to a “Tim McAuliffe” label, “KM Pro Cap” and size “7-1/8” stampings. On the bill’s underside, “6 – Wertz” is inscribed in ballpoint. Heavy use is evident with perspiration-induced soiling about the interior and dirt stains (from multiple tugs) on the bill’s underside. Accompanying is a full photo LOA from Phil Wood.
