Description

Long bus rides, shoddy hotels and less-than-glamorous venues comprised the fare for the minor league experiences of yester-year. But out of the love of the game and the dream of “The Show,” players endured it. Here are (7) stadium-issued programs from those bush league days of old. Includes:

1927 Hollywood Stars vs. Oakland Oaks: issued at Wrigley Field, a thick-stock four-page keepsake with pre-printed lineups; presents (EX) with scoring grids partially marked in pencil.

1928 Kansas City Blues vs. Columbus Senators: issued at Blues Stadium, a 40-page guide with pre-printed lineups that included Blues second baseman Bill Wambsganss (he of World Series unassisted triple play fame); presents (VG-EX) with covers/pages intact and scoring grids marked in pencil.

1928 Los Angeles Angels vs. Portland Beavers: issued at Wrigley Field, the four-page thick stock souvenir features pre-printed lineups of the Pacific Coast League combatants; presents (VG) with moisture-induced stains and multiple tears.

1929 Oakland Oaks vs. San Francisco Seals: issued at Oaks Park, the 16-page guide features pre-printed lineups that included future Hall of Fame backstop Ernie Lombardi behind the plate for the hosts; presents (EX) with scoring grids marked in pencil. There is a hint of a vertical compacting fold.

1931 Los Angeles Angels vs. Sacramento Senators: issued at Wrigley Field, the thick stock four-page item features pre-printed lineups and unmarked scoring grids; presents (FR) with a vertical compacting fold and multiple fissures/tears along upper border.

1937 San Francisco Seals vs. Seattle Indians: issued at Seals Stadium on an appreciation day for Seals president Charles Graham, the 12-page guide features pre-printed lineups that include Seals outfielder Dom DiMaggio; presents (EX) with unmarked coring grids and covers/pages intact.

1937 Newark Bears vs. Syracuse Chiefs: issued at Ruppert Stadium, the thick-stock folding program features pre-printed lineups that include future Bronx stars Joe Gordon and Charlie Keller; presents (EX) with scoring grids marked in pencil (crease-free throughout).
