As team-levied fines exceeded players’ salaries, morale was low and performance was horrific for the 1889 Louisville Colonels: the first Major League team to lose 100 games in a single season. This program was issued at Brooklyn’s Washington Park for a September 14 American Association contest between the moribund Colonels and the first-place Brooklyn Bridegrooms. Scored in pencil to document a 6-2 Bridegrooms triumph in Game 1 of a Saturday twinbill, the 32-page guide presents minimally at the (VG-EX) plateau with covers and pages completely intact. The interior includes photos and advertisements for Brooklyn and Park Slope neighborhood establishments. The scoring grids feature pre-printed lineups. For the Colonels, the setback was one of 19 at the hands of Brooklyn en route to a dismal 27-111 showing.
