Culled from the July 25, 1874 issue of Harper’s Weekly, this 10 x 14-1/2” woodcut features a Philadelphia Athletics team composite. Dating back to the era of collars and mustaches (prior to the lengthy stretch during which no facial hair was an unwritten rule), the nine player portraits are headlined by that of 22-year-old Cap Anson, who is shown choking up on his bat at the lower right corner. The vintage keepsake is crisp and crease free, with only a small tear on the left-side border. Accompanying is a 1913 Collier’s Weekly full-page Tuxedo Tobacco advertisement featuring Hughie Jennings, Napoleon Lajoie, Christy Mathewson, John McGraw, Ed Walsh and Heinie Zimmerman.
