Having given “Murderers Row” all it could handle in the 1928 campaign, the Philadelphia Athletics began their second franchise dynasty in 1929, winning three successive pennants and an aggregate 313 games that stood as a Junior Circuit record until it was bested by the 1969-1971 Orioles (318). This baseball is autographed by (20) members of that 1929 juggernaut roster. The OAL Barnard sphere (grade “6”) maintains colorful red-and-blue alternate laces and prominent factory stampings that date specifically to 1929-1931 (coinciding with the Athletics’ reign over the American League). Executed in black-ink steel tip fountain pen, the scriptings range between (“4-5”) and (“2”) in terms of strength and clarity. Includes: Sweet Spot: Ossie Orwoll and Lefty Grove (“4” strength); North Panel: Jimmy Dykes, Joe Boley, Carroll Yerkes, Cy Perkins and Bill Shores; South Panel: Walter French, Al Simmons (“3-4” strength), Bing Miller and George Earnshaw; West Panel: Rube Walberg, George Burns and Sammy Hale; East Panel: unidentified, Mule Haas, Homer Summa and Jimmie Foxx (“3” strength); Reverse Sweet Spot: Jim Cronin and Connie Mack (manager, “2-3” strength). Accompanying is a full photo LOA from JSA.
