Description

Barred from participating in MLB games throughout the first half of the 20th century, the best African-American players suited up in the gone but not forgotten Negro Leagues. Following Ted Williams HOF induction speech in 1966, these top quality players began receiving proper recognition, with Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson being inducted into the Hall in the early '70s. By the 1990s surviving Negro Leaguers had become signing staples at memorabilia shows, with many collectors taking advantage of the opportunity to gather signatures of both prominent and obscure stars. Those who missed that boat get a second chance with this vast treasure chest assortment of (109) Negro League autographed items. This collection of signed baseballs, photos, index cards and flats ranges in better to excellent condition and signature quality is pleasing overall with a potency range of ("8" to "10") unless noted. Most of the Negro League players have departed to the "Field of Dreams" and the large group of index cards in this lot includes some seldom seen signatures that are considered quite tough, making this big bundle a great find, especially in light of the very reasonable starting point. Auction LOA from JSA.
