When it comes to photos of the Kid and the Bambino, we've all seen countless shots of their famous dugout handshake on the auction block. But seldom surfaces this behind-the-scenes, locker-room scene—especially in Type I status. In fact, the last time a major auction house offered a comparable Type I example was back in 2012, when one sold for over $2,200. This successor showcases exquisite image focus right down to the hairs on their hands and the Ruth barrel brand on the bat. The reverse is stamped "JUL 13 1943" with a news-clipping caption that reads, "A PAIR OF HOMER KINGS / Ted Williams (left), former Boston Red Sox slugger and home run king of the past two seasons, chose up in the best sandlot style with the one and only Babe Ruth before the start of their hitting contest at Boston yesterday. Williams smacked a three-run homer as Ruth's All Stars whipped the Braves, 9-8." There is also a later filing notation. Typical evidence of newsroom usage in the form of peripheral creasing, crazing and wear. LOA for Type I by PSA/DNA.
