A winner of 10 American League pennants and seven World Series titles during his 12-season tenure in the Bronx, Hall of Fame skipper Casey Stengel found the going much tougher in Queens, where his expansion Mets set new standards for woeful win-loss records. As hope sprung eternal during the spring of 1965, this baseball was autographed by (22) members of Mets and Minnesota Twins rosters before an April 9 Grapefruit League game in St. Petersburg. The ONL Giles orb shows diamond use and is signed in black ink. The scriptings average (“8-9”) potency and include:

Sweet Spot: Casey Stengel (manager; blue ballpoint, 6” strength); North Panel: Jim Hickman, Galen Cisco, Jesse Gonder, Bob Klaus, Cesar Tovar and Jim Hall; South Panel: Wes Westrum (coach), Warren Spahn, Bob Allison, Harmon Killebrew and Bob Taylor; West Panel: Jim Lemon (coach), Sam Mele (manager), Frank Lary and unidentified; East Panel: Don Heffner (coach), Van Mungo (not with either team, likely just on hand that day), Yogi Berra, Billy Martin (coach), Don Mincher and Rich Rollins. Accompanying is a full photo LOA from Beckett.
