Get time on your side with this fabulous gold coin watch. Crafted circa the 1960s-1970s, this "Swiss Made" custom wristwatch is uniquely styled with a 1904-S U.S. Liberty Head gold coin that has been split and machined on the interior surfaces, with the obverse serving as the lid and the reverse serving as the base for a hidden compartment that houses an 18K gold watch. Ringed with a reeded gold bezel, the compartment is opened by pressing a button on the side at the three o'clock position and lifting the coin face from just inside of the beaded perimeter. The "Double Eagle" 22K gold coin sections present as uncirculated with well-struck details. The watch, bezel, compartment and band all present as unused and in like-new condition.
Provenance is well established through a series of markings as follows: on the interior of the compartment "Craig Watch Co., Swiss"; on the watch face "Schochet, Swiss Made"; outlined hallmarks on the back of the watch include a man's head in profile, followed by "18K, 0750, 722"; and the leather band and its clasp are both marked "Speidel". The back of the band is also marked with "Genuine Leather, 18, H20 Resist, anti-allergic" and the full length measures 10". A well established track record shows watches of this type are typically offered in the $5,000-20,000 range, indicating this deluxe timepiece may be won at significantly below market value for similar watches crafted with $20 denomination gold coins. This item has a reserve. Estimated value is $3,000-6,000.
