Description

Capture a relic of great historic significance with this antique bank check. Drawn on the First National Bank of Washington D.C. is check "No. 21" dual-signed by sitting president Ulysses S. Grant (d.1885) and his wife Julia Grant (d.1902). As General of the Army, Grant directed Union forces to victory in the Civil War and then served as POTUS for two terms from 1869-1877, cementing his place as a figure of great import in American history. Dated 1/6/1870, this 8 x 2-3/4" check is certified Authentic by PSA/DNA with both of the names "Ulysses S. Grant" and "Julia Grant" noted on the grading label. U.S. Grant has signed in the customary position at bottom right of the obverse and his signature retains ("8") potency. Julia Grant has endorsed on the reverse and her signature displays ("9") potency. The check is made payable to "Mrs. U.S. Grant" and with deference to the "Mrs." notation, this designation amounts to a second U.S. Grant autograph of ("8-9") strength. While both of the president's signatures are contacted by an original period bank cancellation cut, the pennings remain bold and present as virtually uninterrupted.
