The first in a long line of premier quarterbacks from Western Pennsylvania, 1947 Heisman Trophy recipient Johnny Lujack was plucked by the Chicago Bears in the opening round of the 1948 NFL Draft. Immediately portrayed on Leaf (#13) and Topps Magic (#6”) trading cards, Lujack enjoyed a brief but successful professional career. This original Type I photograph bears the image used on the aforementioned football cards. Measuring 7-1/16 x 5-15/16”, the black-and-white photo shows Lujack in a passing pose in his University of Notre Dame uniform. Adhered to the reverse, the original Associated Press caption sheet is dated “11-26-47” and has red grease pencil editorial markings. The vintage photo presents beautifully with a very minor left corner crease and incidental wrinkling. Accompanying is a full photo LOA from PSA/DNA.
