Considered one of the greatest teams of all-time, the 1911-1913 New York Giants won an aggregate 303 games and three successive National League pennants. And while the club was defeated in each of those World Series showdowns, the legacy remains one of baseball’s finest. This vintage panoramic team photograph depicts the latter of those flag-winning rosters. Mounted to a thick stock folded backing measuring 20x7” (likely from a period photography studio), the two halves of the black-and-white photo features two rows with printed player identifiers. Among the notable and readily recognizable figures are: John McGraw, Christy Mathewson, Wilbert Robinson and rookie Jim Thorpe. The photo was likely taken late in the season (perhaps before the World Series), as the background crowd is sizable and Ferdie Shupp (top row, fifth from far end) hadn’t debuted that year until August 19. The presentation quality is outstanding!
