Description



While they’re not always popular, the decisions of Major League umpires are the only ones that count. As they strived for impartial rulings and fairness to all involved, big league arbiters wore these items in recent decades. Includes:

 

GAME-WORN SHIRTS:

Mark Carlson: a black knit short-sleeve pullover garment with an MLB silhouette logo patch sewn to the left breast pocket and “48” sewn to the right sleeve in white-on-black-on-white twill. Carlson has signed the pocket in black marker (“7” strength). Within the two-button collar, a flap tag denotes size “XXL

John Kibler: a powder blue cotton short-sleeve button-down garment with a National League logo patch sewn to the left breast pocket and “9” sewn to the right sleeve in blue twill. Within the collar, a “Hathaway” label is accompanied by a fabric content tag.

Greg Kosc: a powder blue cotton short-sleeve button-down garment with an American League logo patch sewn to the left breast pocket and “18” sewn to the right sleeve in blue twill. The left sleeve is home to a 1994 MLB 125th Anniversary logo patch. Within the collar, a “Hathaway” label is accompanied by a fabric content tag.

Steve Ripley: a blue knit short-sleeve pullover garment with a National League logo patch sewn to the left breast pocket and “27” sewn to the right sleeve in red-on-white-on-blue twill. Within the three-button red-white-and-blue striped collar, a “Logo Athletic” label is accompanied by a fabric content tag.

John Shulock: a cream-colored micromesh short-sleeve pullover garment with an MLB silhouette logo patch sewn to the left breast pocket and “29” sewn to the right sleeve in black-on-white-on-black twill. Shulock has signed near the left shoulder in black marker (“6-7’ strength) and inscribed “#29 C.C.

John Shulock: a size “X-LARGE” blue cotton undershirt with an applique American League logo on the left breast. There are black marker notations of “29” on both the logo and “Champion” collar tag.

 

GAME-WORN CAPS:

(2) John Shulock: navy blue wool accessories with “New Era” size “7-3/8” interior leather sweatband tagging; one has an American League logo embroidered to the front center and one has “MLB.” Shulock has signed both on the bill n silver-colored marker (both “6-7” strength) and inscribed “#29 C.C.

American League: user unknown with "New Era" size "7-3/8" tagging.

National League: user unknown; a navy blue wool accessory with a shirt bill and “NL” embroidered to the front center in white connected letters. Sewn to the interior leather sweatband, a size “7” tag is accompanied by a “New Era” label that dates to 1985-1987.”

 

MISCELLANEOUS: a pair of black wool mittens (with Chicago White Sox logos); a ball bag signed by John Shulock (silver-colored marker, “8” strength with “#29 C.C.” inscription); (3) American League Umpires expense account ledgers (blank); and lineup cards from the June 19, 2002 game between Houston and Milwaukee (respectively signed by managers Jimy Williams and Jerry Royster) .
