With the Sport of Baseball eliminated from the Olympics by a 2005 vote, the World Baseball Classic was established in 2006 as the premier international event for the game. Get in on the ground floor of this worldwide competition with this 2006 inaugural WBC program signed by legendary Japanese slugger Sadaharu Oh. As host of the first ever WBC tournament, Japan got plenty of props as the first “World Champions” to emerge from this international affair. Fittingly, Japan’s greatest diamond hero served as the manager of his country’s team and the offered program (NM-MT) is a perfect collectible representative of the occasion. Oh’s bold black felt pen signature covers the baseball logo at center of the program with firm (“9-10”) quality. Also present is a full ticket (EX) from the 3/20/06 “Final” championship game, which saw Japan triumph by a score of 10-6 over runner-up Cuba and a 4x6 original photo (NM-MT) of Oh wearing his tournament gold medal. Full photo LOA from JSA.
