Perennial contenders without the hardware to show for it since their 1958 move to San Francisco, the Giants finally cashed in with three bi-annual World Series crowns to join the conversation of recent baseball dynasties. These (11) apparel items were worn by Bay Area players during recent decades. Includes:
1977-1982: black wool accessory with an orange bill and “SF” embroidered to the front panel in orange characters. An orange button resides atop the six-point crown suspension, while the plastic-lined interior sweatband features a “New Era” label and a size “7-1/4” tag. Moderate wear is evident with dirt on the bill’s underside and sweatband.
1994-1996: black wool accessory with “SF” embroidered to the front panel in orange characters and an MLB silhouette logo sewn to the back. An orange button resides atop the six-point crown suspension, while the plastic-lined interior sweatband features a “New Era” label and a fabric content tag. Heavy wear is evident with dirt on the bill’s underside and sweatband.
(2) 1970s: both black nylon button-down garments with “Giants” embroidered to the left sleeve. Each has two front pockets, while black-and-orange striped stretch ribbed knit lines the collar, waistline and sleeve endings. Each collar interior features a “Wilson” size tag (one size “48,” one size “46”), as well as a leather hanger and a blank cloth label to facilitate handwritten identifiers (one is marker “39” suggesting possible wear by Randy Moffitt). Both show heavy wear with fraying about the stretch ribbed cotton panels.
1994: a black nylon pullover garment attributed to Darryl Strawberry; features “SF” embroidered to the left breast, while black-and-orange striped stretch ribbed knit lines the collar, waistline and sleeve endings. Within the zippered collar, “17 - Straw” is inscribed in black marker on a “Starter” size “XL” label. Moderate wear.
2001: a black nylon size “XXL” zippered garment with “SAN FRANCISCO” arched across the chest in black-on-orange-on-gold twill and “SF” sewn to the left sleeve in solid orange twill. Orange piping lines the sleeves and sides, an American Flag patch adorns the right sleeve and an MLB silhouette logo patch is sewn atop the back. There are two front pockets, while black stretch ribbed cotton lines the collar, waistline and sleeve endings. The collar’s interior is home to a “Majestic” label and a cloth hanger. Light wear.
Also included are (4) 1990s/early-2000s jackets (specific years undetermined); (2) with “Starter” labels and (2) with “Majestic” labels. Moderate wear shows throughout.
Trainer’s Shirt: a white cotton short-sleeve zippered garment with “Giants” on the left breast pocket in orange-and-black applique and an “Iolani” size “XL” label sewn within the 4-1/2”-wide collar.
