Description

The lovely "Good Girl" pin-up genre from the first half of the twentieth century is refreshingly displayed in this eye-catching collection of mementoes, featuring the art of Gil Elvgren, Earl Moran and others, as well as a complete deck of Vargas Girls playing cards. Includes:

 

1940s “Mutoscope” Arcade Cards (20 Different) – color cards from various series, 3-1/4" x 5-1/4" (VG to EX/MT, a few lesser);

 

1943 Esquire Magazine "Hurrell Girls" - Esky-Card Set #8" color photo pin-up postcards complete set (6) – in original envelope. Full-color cards picturing actresses and measuring 4-1/2" x 7", NM to NM/MT;

 

1940s-50s Paper Pin-Ups (27 Different) – these uncirculated, blank-backed items were probably intended for use on ads or punchboards. Full-color on thin paper, ranging in size from 2-1/4" x 3" to 3-3/4" x 4" (EX to NM);

 

1930s-60s Exhibit Pin-Up Photo Arcade Cards (30 Different) – 3-3/8” x 5-3/8” on vintage manila cardstock, tinted or color-enhanced, from a variety of series (VG to EX, a couple lesser);

 

1950s "Vargas Girls" Playing Card Deck – with original box. These full-color cards present 53 different pin-up images by Alberto Vargas. Box is about VG with an edge fold tear and general wear, cards are EX to EX/MT;

 

1950s-60s Pin-Up Matchbook Covers (36 Different) – a nice group, featuring images by Petty and others, flattened, with strikers, matches removed (about EX);

 

1950s-60s Blotters (3 Different) – 6" x 3-3/8" blotters featuring one illustration apiece by Moran, Elvgren and Mozert (all unused, VG to EX/MT);

 

1960s-70s "Superior" Weekly Calendar Pin-Up Folders (12 Different) – each has a pin-up girl and a monthly calendar on the front, with jokes filling the remaining three pages, once-folded to 4" x 9" dimensions, about EX;

 

1996 Fleer "Varga Girls" Bubble Gum Unopened Packs (10) – each pack contains a piece of bubble gum and a Varga Girl sticker.
