Dating back to 1871, the Atlanta Braves franchise has gone by nine different team names, while calling three different cities home. The Braves third iteration went by the colorful moniker the "Boston Beaneaters" from 1883-1906. Travel back well over a hundred years ago, with this Beaneaters scorecard from a double-header played on 8/27/1903 vs the New York Giants, who now call San Francisco home. Printed on sturdy stock, this "Dead Ball" era relic remains very pleasing, despite being separated at the spine and has otherwise withstood the ravages of time in fine fashion, presenting VG+ details. Makeshift scoring recorded in pencil extends into the advertising area at right of the grids, showing results for both games played that day, with a 3-1 Boston win in game one by HOF hurler Vic Willis; and a 7-1 victory for the Giants in game two with HOFer Joe McGinnty on the mound. A third HOF star is listed for the Giants team, with Roger Bresnahan batting in the second spot. Another aspect of this ancient gameday souvenir may be of interest to Black Americana collectors, in the form of a racially insensitive advertisement printed on the cover.
