On board for his first of four seasons as the club’s hitting coach, Hal McRae wore and autographed this Philadelphia Phillies road jersey during the 1997 season. The gray knit button-down garment features the script-style “Phillies” displayed across the chest in red embroidery on white twill, with blue five-point stars dotting the lower-case “i’s.” In red-on-white satin twill, “56” is sewn to the back and left sleeve, while “McRAE” is arched atop the back number in like fashion. Just above the twill name identifier, McRae has signed in black marker (“8-9” strength). The sleeves respectively pay tribute to fallen Hall of Famers as a Jackie Robinson 50th anniversary logo patch (worn league-wide that year) adorns the right sleeve and a black left sleeve armband serves as a memorial for deceased Phillies announcer Richie Ashburn. White-and-red striped stretch ribbed knit lines the sleeve endings, while the tapered left front tail is home to a “Russell Athletic” size “46” label and a fabric content flap tag. All original with no alterations, the Philly coach’s gamer shows moderate wear. Auction LOA from JSA (for autograph).
