Nearing a crossroads in franchise history, the Redskins realized success on the gridiron in 1936, as they were the only NFL Eastern Division team with a winning record and thus, an automatic entry in the Championship game. At the turnstiles, however, the Fenway Park crowds were non-receptive, prompting owner George Preston Marshall to leave Beantown for the Nation’s Capital, where the “Skins remain to this day. Issued on September 20 of the franchise’s last season (1936) in Boston, this gameday program is a rare and well-kept survivor. As the Redskins did battle with the Philadelphia Eagles at Municipal Stadium, this 20-page guide was issued at a game in which the visitors prevailed, 26-3 as Cliff Battles ran for touchdowns of 6 and 65 yards. With just a hint of a vertical compacting fold, the program presents beautifully, but is technically (VG) with a tiny tear of the front cover’s right edge and a strip of transparent tape securing the spine. Covers and all crisp pages remain completely intact.
