Description

One of baseball's toughest autographs of the post expansion era steps to the plate with this Thurman Munson signed 4x5 photograph. Playing for the most storied team in baseball history the New York Yankees, Munson was recognized for his outstanding skills and leadership qualities by being named team captain in 1976, a role that had not been filled since Lou Gehrig was so honored in the 1930s. Tragically his life was cut short in his late prime at the age of 32, in a 1979 crash while attempting to land his private plane at the Akron-Canton Regional Airport. Matted to dimensions of 5x7, the offered photo sees the gritty backstop in a dugout portrait wearing his Yankees uniform and batting helmet. Munson's prominent signature projects ("8-9") potency, ideally located between his neck and uniform letters along with a personalization. The bright and glossy photo shows minor wear but remains very attractive. Full photo LOA from JSA.
