Like fence posts along the side of a highway, Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games went by like a blur – as did his phenomenal production. Encapsulated and Graded VG 3 by PSA, this ticket stub was issued at Yankee Stadium for the June 4, 1933 doubleheader against the Philadelphia Athletics. Playing in consecutive game numbers 1,239 and 1,240, Gehrig went 5-for-8 to spark a sweep of the A’s to leave the front-running Bronx Bombers four games up on eventual league champion Washington. The lone graded example, the crisp voucher features printed seating/event details, a “Game No. 26” identifier and the facsimile signature of club President Jacob Ruppert. With sharp edges/corners and an uneven admission tear, the item presents even nicer than its technical assessment suggests. Incidentally, the tireless Gehrig was ejected (along with manager Joe McCarthy) just 10 days later during a game against the Red Sox. McCarthy was suspended for three games but Gehrig avoided suspension, keeping his consecutive games streak intact.
