Quick: can you name the only city to boast both NFL Super Bowl and CFL Grey Cup titles? The answer, of course, is Baltimore. And here’s a ring from the latter endeavor that was presented to the only man to have one of each! In his capacity as Vice President and broadcaster for the 1995 Baltimore Stallions, former Colts star Tom Matte was awarded this size 12 accessory. Crafted from 10-karat gold, the ring features an ostentatious centerpiece on which a Grey Cup design is surrounded by a bed of diamond chips. Surrounding the facing in raised characters, “19” and “95” are flanked by “GREY CUP” and “CHAMPIONS.” On the left shank, raised character proclamations read “MATTE,” “REGINA,” “GREY CUP” and “VP,” while a scroll features an engraved “Saskatchewan” identifier. On the opposite shank, a Stallions relief logo is accompanied by a raised numeral reminder of the club’s “18-3” record and a scroll design on which “Unfinished Business” is engraved. Weighing in at 38.9 grams, this hefty piece is an unusual championship relic from a city that has run the gamut in terms of gridiron fortunes.
