Description

Get an inside look at the machinations of NFL football with this 1979 Baltimore Colts playbook, that was issued to Roosevelt Leaks. The first African-American letterman for the Texas Longhorns, Leaks finished third in the 1973 Heisman Trophy voting and was drafted by the Colts in 1975. During a nine-year NFL career with Baltimore and the Buffalo Bills, the hard-nosed running back was considered one the League's top blockers at his position. The front cover of this 1979 Colts playbook is adorned with the team's horseshoe on helmet logo and team name lettering. Affixed to the inside of the front cover is a printed label that reads "This is the Property of the Baltimore Football Club Inc., Baltimore, Maryland, Roosevelt Leaks". The fascinating content includes guidelines for the Colts offense and defense, followed by dozens of pages of play diagrams, stats and more. Fairly well-preserved, this playbook shows moderate signs of age-appropriate wear, which supports the genuine nature of this NFL team issued and  player used item. Also present are (5) 6x4 period snapshot photos (average EX-MT to NM) of Colts players and cheerleaders, taken from the field level; and the first manila tab page is signed by (4) members of the 1979 Colts squad (average "8-9") with Mike Siani, Ed Simonini (first name only), Bob Pratt and Bert Jones (no authentication due to time/cost restraints).
