Having signed with the Boston Patriots as the franchise’s biggest lineman ever in 1969, 6-foot-8 Detroit native Ron Berger played four seasons for the Boston/New England Patriots, recovering four fumbles along the way. This Patriots jersey was worn by Berger during the 1972 season, his fourth and final in Foxboro. The cream-colored dureen pullover garment features “88” sewn to the front, back and shoulders in red satin twill and “BERGER” sewn to a nameplate atop the back number in red block-style twill characters. The collar and sleeve endings are tailored from red-white-and-blue striped stretch ribbed cotton. The crotch flap receptacle panel features two sets of three buttons (to facilitate proper fit), while its underside is home to a vintage “Rawlings” size “54” tag, a “Bucky Warren” local distributor’s tag and a laundering instructions tag. All original and unaltered, the jersey shows light wear with minimal fraying and puckering about the twill components. This is undoubtedly one of the earliest New England Patriots gamers in the hobby! Accompanying is a full photo LOA from the New England Patriots’ ProShop Memorabilia.
