Journey back in time to one of the great baseball venues of the 20th Century with this 1938 MLB All-Star program from Crosley Field in Cincinnati. Standing at the intersection of Findlay and Western, this venerable stadium served as home field to the Reds for nearly six full decades. On 7/6/38, the "Queen City" hosted the 6th edition of the newly created baseball All-Star Game. From cozy Crosley Field comes this "1938 Official All-Star Program", from a contest played before a near-capacity crowd of 27,067. As evidenced throughout this 24-page gameday souvenir this was truly a star-studded affair, with AL stars such as Jimmie Foxx, Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey and Lefty Gomez countered by NL stars Mel Ott, Leo Durocher, Ernie Lombardi and Johnny Vander Meer. These greats and many others are listed on the unused scoring pages and are also seen in photos, with managers Bill Terry and Joe McCarthy in the mix. Also pictured are Lou Gehrig, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Bob Feller, Lloyd Waner, Gabby Hartnett, Carl Hubbell, Ducky Medwick and other top stars of the day. Showing only light to moderate touches of wear, this octogenarian publictaion merits a solid (EX) desigantion and is sure to please vintage program pursuers.
