Relying on speed over slugging, the 1928 Cincinnati Reds stole a league-best 83 bases, which helped offset their National League low 32 home runs. This baseball is autographed by (24) members of that 1928 Reds roster, which stood atop the Senior Circuit standings for much of the spring and authored a torrid 12-2 stretch in July to contend before faltering in the final two months of the season. The ONL Heydler orb presents nicely with scattered surface abrasions that minimally affect some of the signatures. Executed in black-ink steel tip fountain pen, the scriptings range between (“7-8”) and (“2”) in terms of strength and clarity. Includes: Sweet Spot: Stripp, Zitzmann and Hargrave; North Panel: Allen, Land (coach), Picinich (d.1942), Rixey (“3-4” strength) and Ash; South Panel: Kolp, Critz, Dressen, (2) unidentified and Sukeforth; West Panel: Pipp, Pittinger, Johnson and Beckman; East Panel: Donohue, Luque, Wingo (coach, d.1941), May and Kelly (“4-5” strength); Reverse Sweet Spot: Ford. Did you know … ? Si Johnson (west panel) was the last pitcher to strike out Babe Ruth! Accompanying is a full photo LOA from JSA.
