Having lured Bronko Nagurski out of his five-year retirement in the wake of a war-depleted roster, the 1943 Chicago Bears won their third NFL Championship in four seasons, advancing to the title contest for a then-record fourth successive season. Hawking those “Monsters of the Midway,” this vintage broadside is among the earliest artifacts from a proud franchise whose 1943 installment was powered by no fewer than five Hall of Famers. Framed to 15-1/4 x 23-1/4”, the colorful display features an orange backdrop with white and blue lettering proclaiming: “Football Thrills by these Chicago Bears.” A football-shaped design features black-and-white headshots of (22) team members, including Fortmann, Luckman, Musso, Nagurski and Turner. Near the lower border, a rectangular insert lists the five Wrigley Field home dates and opponents (all of which the Bears won). There is a small vintage handwritten notation of “1943” along the lower border, as well as upper left and right corner tears. These flaws hardly detract from the overall appeal of this vintage Bears heirloom. Bear down!
