The "Gashouse Gang" comes home to roost with this 1935 Old Judge Coffee brand advertising calendar featuring the "1934 World's Champions St. Louis Cardinals". Professionally mounted in framed display to overall dimensions of 20 x 39-1/2", this captivating calendar is a visual delight. The upper half is consumed by a pair of cardinals greeting the dawn, with the slogan "Two Champions, Cardinal Redbirds - 1934, Old Judge Coffee - Since 1858" printed at the bottom of the scene. The lower half of the display is the business end, with a composite panel of Cardinals portrait photos, followed by brand advertising surrounding a "1935" tear-away calendar with the "April" page showing. Included among the portrait photos are the driving forces of the famous "Gashouse Gang" squad that won the 1934 World Series with an entertaining brand of rough and ready baseball, with Frankie Frisch, Leo Durocher, Ducky Medwick, Dizzy Dean, Daffy Dean, Rip Collins, Pepper Martin, Spud Davis, Tex Carleton and Jack Rothrock. Also pictured are team president Sam Breadon and vice-president Branch Rickey. Moderate signs of wear are noted mainly along the perimeter and have little impact on the tremendous appeal of this octogenarian advertisement, other than to provide a period authentic look.
