New York Yankees slugger Mickey Mantle lit up baseball stadiums across America during his illustrious career. Now Mickey stands ready in miniature to light up your world, with this Hartland Plastics gold statue lamp that was produced in the early 1960s at the height of his playing days. Hartland statues have long been a favorite of collectors and this scarce desktop decorative positions as one of the tougher pieces from the classic line. A 7" tall Mantle gold figure presents EX-MT details and stands atop a 9-1/2 x 5-3/4" natural wood base, which shows just minor traces of wear. The statue's back foot is loose from a small drilled hole on the wood base, but a dab of glue should readily remedy the situation. A bronze pole with a light bulb receptacle tops out at 13" high and with a light bulb in place the shade reaches a height of nearly 18". A corded plug appears to be original and this lamp has been tested to be in working order. The front of the shade is decorated with crossed bats and a baseball in tan felt and other than some moderate staining on the sides and a stray mark or two, the shade remains in better condition with a solid shape. Crafted in a classic batting stance at the left side of homeplate, the gold colored icon bears Mantle's uniform number "7" on the back, clearly identifying the subject and a brass plate with "Play Ball" lettering affixed to the front of the base completes the design.
