Description

Back in the 1940s and 1950s Gibbs-Conner produced a line of sports collectibles that included a variety types representing Major League baseball teams. One of the larger items was a two-piece mascot head cookie jar with lid and base, produced in several different team designs. GC collectors are in for an extra special treat with this Pittsburgh Pirates mascot head that follows the cookie jar type but was made to be a lamp. Possibly an original factory prototype, this one of a kind creation incorporates modern elements with a vintage 1950s GC Pirates mascot head that was crafted by the factory in one piece with a lamp receptacle opening at top. This Pirates "Buccaneer with knife in mouth" head sits on a 10x10 homeplate-shaped wood base with a credit sticker on the underside that reads "Bill Spencer Hand Made Baseball Displays". Spencer has assembled this one of a kind 17" tall creation with a "1998 Wolfson" painted "Forbes Field" decorative baseball, the homeplate base, a Pirates lampshade, a corded plug and a bulb receptacle, with all elements presenting in excellent condition. A marvelous juxtaposition of the old and the new, this unique lamp is a display masterpiece.
