Number 42 at far right is of course the main attraction here. But there's also much to be said for the three inconspicuous figures at far left: "Senator" John Griffin (famed clubhouse man); Lee Scott (traveling secretary); and Charlie "The Brow" DiGiovanna (batboy and notorious signer of clubhouse signatures!). DiGiovanna is the rarest autograph of the trio, and even more so with the inscription of his "Brow" nickname as seen here. In fact, James Spence's eyes lit up when he authenticated this piece and saw that DiGiovanna added such a personal touch. Signature strength overall ranges from "3-8", averaging "4-5", with Hodges ("3-4"), Pafko, Reese ("4-5"), Shuba, Pfister, Lavagetto, Dressen, Pitler, Herman, Cox, Campanella ("4"), Furillo, King, Bridges, Erskine, Rutherford, Labine, Morgan, Roe, Moore, D. Williams ("5"), Holmes, Walker, Snider ("7"), Wade, Loes, Lehman, Amoros, Nelson, Landrum, Branca, Black and Robinson ("3"). Produced by Verna Photographers of Brooklyn, the panorama has a visible area of 47" x 7" within a 52" x 12" frame. A handful of vertical creases distract little from the exceptional overall eye appeal. This would be a desirable Flatbush display even without all the signatures! Auction LOA from JSA.
