The successor to Yogi Berra and American League MVP in 1963, former Bronx Bomber backstop Elston Howard remained with the franchise in a coaching capacity until his untimely passing in 1980. These (2) items are autographed by the pinstriper star. Includes:
1978 New York Yankees Payroll Check: drawn from the team account at New York’s Chemical Bank, the voucher features the club’s stars-and-stripes themed top hat logo. Dated “7/31/78,” the check is made out to Howard in the amount of $2,246.35 and endorsed on the back in black ballpoint (“10” strength). Of note is that on the date of this check, the Yankees were 7-1/2 games behind the front-running Red Sox. A 43-17 surge and Bucky Dent heroics, of course, followed.
Signed Photograph: an 8x10” black-and-white photo of Howard in his Yankee pinstripes and “tools of ignorance.” Signed in black marker (“10” strength). Accompanying is a full photo LOA from JSA.
