Description

American Civil War history plays out before your eyes with this set of antique non-sport tobacco cards. Presented is an 1887 N99 "Battle Scenes" complete set of (25) cards. Issued with reverse side advertising for Duke's Honest Long Cut and Gail & Ax Navy Long Cut tobacco brands, these ancient 2-1/2 x 4-1/8" cards feature fantastic artwork and interesting related text. From the Civil War's opening shot at Fort Sumter to the battlefields of Gettysburg and Antietam and the tactics of leaders such as Sheridan, Stuart and Farragut, this rousing military series provides glimpses of the USA's costliest war in terms of American lives lost. This set was released just twenty-two years after the end of the war between the North and South, at a time when most of the living adults had suffered through the tumultious conflict.

(11) Cards have W. Duke, Son & Co. Honest Long Cut backs, with (7) cards averaging (GD to VG); (1) card rating as (FR); and (3) cards with reverse side surface loss, with all obverses remaining attractive.

(14) Cards have G.W. Gail & Ax Navy Long Cut backs, with (7) cards averaging (GD to VG); and (7) cards with reverse side surface, with all obverses remaining attractive.
