Following a franchise-long lull of nine successive losing seasons, the Kansas City Royals began to turn things around in 2013. En route to a winning season that year (followed by two straight World Series appearances), the Royals tabbed Hall of Famer George Brett as the team’s hitting coach. This Royals road jersey was worn and autographed by Brett during the July 9, 2013 game at Yankee Stadium (almost exactly 30 years removed from the infamous “Pine tar” incident in the Bronx). The gray micromesh button-down garment features “Kansas City” angled across the chest in blue-on-white twill, while the since-retired number “5” is sewn to the back and left front in like fashion and “BRETT” is arched atop the back number in blue-on-white twill block-style characters. On the upper horizontal portion of the back “5,” Brett has signed in silver-colored marker (“8-9” strength). A Royals team logo patch adorns the left sleeve, an MLB silhouette logo is sewn atop the back, while blue-and-white striped piping lines the sleeve endings. The tapered left front tail is home to a “Majestic” size “46” applique label. The left side seam’s interior features a size “46” fabric content flap tag with a “0630” gamer code. Accompanying are MLB Authentication and Steiner Sports holograms, as well as an LOA signed by Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera, who was given this jersey by Brett.
