Description

Long before he entered politics, 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan did his part to help spotlight soap box racing. The scene was Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio on 10/12/51. A popular Hollywood actor at the time, Reagan (d.2004) took on ventriloquist Paul Winchell, who won the "Oil Can Trophy Race" with the help of his wisecracking sidekick dummy Jerry Mahoney. Offered is an "All-American Soap Box Derby" program from this event, period signed by Reagan at top on the front cover with ("7-8") strength. Compacting folds and some minor surface loss on the back cover relegate the program to a (FR-GD) grade, however it presents much better and after all Reagan's autograph represents 99% of the value and it's possible this is the only such program signed by this great American.
