How extremely rare? The only record that we can find of another Harwood "Red Stocking" ball reaching the auction block was way back in 1993! That example sold for over $1,700, and it's not beyond the realm of possibility that this indeed IS that very one. In which case it would be an entirely unique survivor. The red-and-blue-seamed orb shows consistent medium toning/soiling that only minimally detracts from the attractive, all-important "Red Stocking" stamp on the sweet spot. It's a fairly remarkable state of preservation, with the brunt of time's passage having been borne instead by the box, which is PR with missing pieces but still displays nicely on three panels.
