Description

From the best season of a long HOF career filled with great seasons, comes this 1977 Rod Carew game-used bat. The top contact hitter of his day, Carew earned seven AL batting crowns during his days with the Minnesota Twins. He batted .300+ fifteen times during his nineteen year MLB career and his best mark was .388 in 1977. This lofty achievement saw Carew rewarded with the AL MVP award. There's no telling how many bats the Zonian infielder used to amass his 239 hits that season, but the offered game-used bat certainly saw plenty of the action. The handle is covered in tan tape and the grain swelling on the barrel back has graduated to moderate splits, however the front view of the barrel with a Carew facsimile signature burned in remains very appealing.

As noted on an accompanying full photo LOA from PSA/DNA, this H&B Louisville Slugger is certified with: "Description: Excellent use with a handle crack. Some checking (grain swelling) from repeated ball contact is on the back barrel. The knob of the bat has been blacked out". "Conclusion: After a thorough examination of this Rod Carew professional model bat and its player use characteristics, it is our opinion the bat is authnetic, and was manufactured for Carew during the referenced labeling period, The bat's use by Carew cannot be confirmed.". Vital statistics listed on the LOA are: "Model Number: K55; Labeling Period: 1977; Length: 34.375; Weight: 33.4 ounces; Wood: Ash; and Finish: Standard".

Our research department has found this example to be the only 1977 Carew model offered, with others being "1977-1979" models. Opportunities to grab an authentic piece of baseball history from such a remarkable season are few and far between, so take your best swing at this one.
