Capture a little of Wayne Gretzky's magic with this 1/23/84 Sports Illustrated Vol. 60, #3 issue. Absorbed into the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers during the 1979-80 season, the "Great One" led his team to it's first Stanley Cup championship the year this magazine was published. After taking down the NY Islanders dynasty in '84, Gretzky and his amazing teammates ruled hockey until his relocation to LA in 1988.
Gretzky is seen in his famous number "99" uniform on the front cover of this classic SI edition. CGC graded (9.2) with an "Off-White to White Pages" label notation, this well-preserved example holds a CGC Census rank of "1/2", with none higher. The "Greater and Greater" caption accompanying Gretzky's photo is a prophetic announcement of the incredible things to come. The NHL's all-time points leader went on to win a total of four Stanley Cup championships and was immediately inducted in the Hall of Fame upon retirement. Gretzky was also afforded the unique honor of having his uniform number retired league wide by the NHL.
