Tobacconistas are served with this fabulous antique advertising sign. Created to promote the "Pirate Cigarette" brand, this early-1900s porcelain enamel sign is a visual delight with bold colors and fantastic graphics. Pirate Cigarettes are famous among collectors for issuing both the prized 1912 T215 baseball tobacco cards and Chinese language non-sport types. Pirate related materials are generally pretty tough to come by in today's market, but this stunning 39x26 metal sign goes way beyond tough, into the super-rare realm. As far as our researchers can tell, this is the only such sign available for purchase and it positions as a crowning touch for even the most advanced tobacco collectors. A fierce pirate stands at center, amid the legend "Pirate Virginia Cigarettes" and spanning the bottom are the words "Met Coupons". Paint loss and oxidation surround the factory punched mounting holes on the perimeter and there is also a 2-1/2" span of paint loss on the Pirate's right sleeve, while the reverse is affected by overall wear. However, this degree of wear is much less than can be expected for a piece of such considerable age and the vibrant obverse is the definition of display appeal.
