"Holy Key Issue" Batfans, this one is a must. At a time when the Batman TV series had viewers glued to their sets, the long-running Detective Comics series debuted the Batgirl/Barbara Gordon character. This fearless female crime fighter was introduced with an origin story in the pages of Detective Comics #359, published 1/67 by DC. Here we have a prime example of this important key issue graded (VF- 7.5) by CGC. Famed for its classic cover by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson, this blockbuster comic set the stage for Yvonne Craig's television portrayal of Batgirl, which followed nines months after this book hit the newsstands. The assigned grade puts this favorable comic in the top 20% on the CGC Census, as "1/97" at the 7.5 tier, with 260 higher out of a considerable total population of 1,863 examples graded in Universal holders.
This new to the market comic offering comes from the estate of a lifetime collector who purchased his collection at time of publication in the 1960s. One of sixty-six such comic book lots in the current H&S May, 2020 auction, these Silver Age classics were held by the original owner until his demise last year, at which point his collection was bequeathed to a longtime friend, who though reluctant to let go of his friend's nostalgic posessions, has decided they should be enjoyed by dedicated collectors. Those comics which are graded were submitted to CGC c.2001-2003 and along with those that are not graded, were lovingly stored for more than fifty years regardless of condition. Enjoy this vintage selection from the fabulous "Ford Collection".
