Thanks to the greatest movie franchise not named Star Wars or The Godfather, Marvel Comics super-hero team The Avengers has transcended the print world to become famous worldwide, among all walks of human life. From cattle ranchers in Argentina to rice farmers in China, just about every Earthling has heard of the hero squadron headed by Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk. Served up is one of the Avengers earliest comic book adventures, with this #9 issue dated 10/64. Marking the 1st appearance and death of Wonder Man, this Silver Age key issue is graded (GD+ 2.5) by leading certification service CGC and the easily digested starting point invites all comers.
This new to the market comic offering comes from the estate of a lifetime collector who purchased his collection at time of publication in the 1960s. One of sixty-six such comic book lots in the current H&S May 2020 auction, these Silver Age classics were held by the original owner until his passing last year, at which point his collection was bequeathed to a longtime friend, who though reluctant to let go of his friend's nostalgic possessions, has decided they should be enjoyed by dedicated collectors. Those comics, which are graded, were submitted to CGC c.2001-2003 and along with those that are not graded, were lovingly stored for more than fifty years regardless of condition. Enjoy this vintage selection from the fabulous "Ford Collection".
